Il Etait Temps is also no slouch, beating Jonbon in the bet365 Celebration Chase at Sandown Park last season.

Willie Mullins has been increasingly dominant at the Cheltenham Festival. He saddled 10 winners at the 2022 meeting and repeated this tally in 2025. That was his seventh consecutive leading trainer award, and future success seems virtually guaranteed.
The Irishman has won the Cheltenham Gold Cup on four occasions, with Al Boum Photo and Galopin Des Champs having both landed a brace of victories. He’s also won five Champion Hurdles, with Hurricane Fly obliging twice along with Faugheen, Annie Power and State Man. There’s been a more modest two wins in the Queen Mother Champion Chase, where Energumene won twice.
Nichols Canyon and Penhill gave Mullins consecutive successes in the Stayers’ Hurdle in 2017 and 2018, with the legendary handler winning the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle on no fewer than eight occasions, so his horses are always worth looking at most fast withdrawal betting sites. Willie Mullins Biography
Son of the legendary Paddy Mullins, trainer of the magical mare, Dawn Run, Willie Mullins learned from the best when it comes to training horses. The fact that he has surpassed his father’s success by some margin proves that he will go down in racing history as one of the greatest of all time.
Willie Mullins was raised in Goresbridge, Co Kilkenny, but now trains in Closutton, Co Carlow. He was an accomplished amateur jockey in Ireland, where he won the Amateur Champion Jockey title six times. However, given his size, training was always going to be where Willie’s career lay. He learned his trade as assistant to his father, but also spent time as the right-hand man to legendary flat racing trainer Jim Bolger.
He began training in 1988, and since then he has enjoyed incredible success both at home in Ireland, and across the pond in Britain. The list of Willie Mullins’ big-race wins contains pretty much all Grade 1s available, but it is at the Cheltenham Festival where he has really made his mark. Mullins is the most successful trainer in Festival history, having amassed a total of 88 winners. At the 2022 festival alone he recorded a record 10 wins for the week. One race that did evade him for a long time was the prestigious Gold Cup. It took until the 2019 meeting for Al Boum Photo to finally break the hoodoo, and the same horse would go on to win again the following year.
The Aintree Grand National is another race that Willie Mullins’ runners have struggled in. In fact, he has just one win in the world famous race, that being all the way back in 2005 with Hedgehunter. He has remained luckless ever since.
At home in Ireland, Mullins has won nearly every Grade 1 race on offer. 11 Irish Gold Cups, eight Punchestown Champion Hurdles, seven Punchestown Champion Chases and six Punchestown Gold Cups are just a small part of an amazing list of top-level successes. Not content with ruling the National Hunt scene, Willie Mullins horses have also won some big prizes on the flat, including at Royal Ascot and in the Irish St Leger.
Willie’s son, Patrick, has followed in his father’s footsteps by becoming one of the most successful amateur riders racing has ever seen. This is mainly down to the amazing ability of Willie being able to prepare nearly every ‘Bumper’ horse he trains to win. Patrick also serves as assistant to Mullins Snr, and it is widely believed that he will follow the path of his father by continuing the family’s training legacy when the time comes.
